Upcoming EP Release

Hello! I’ve been working hard to get this EP recorded, I’m proud to say all the hard work is done!! I sent it away to get pressed yesterday, so in about two weeks it will be ready! The official launch is 19th July at GPO in Fortitude Valley

Yipppeee!

Recording my EP - Day one in the studio

Tuesday 1st May 2012

I want to start by saying that its the first of the month today and I was very disappointed that I wasn’t able to pinch or punch anybody before midday as I was hanging out in my bandroom typing this instead of annoying the general public.

But yes, I am documenting my recording experience. Sunday I went to the Music-box in Morayfield to start recording my first ep!! I had a cancelled gig on Saturday due to the never ending rain so I was more than ready to do something that involved leaving the house. As is normally the case I thought I was running late and I think I may have been snapped by a speed camera on the Bruce highway (Yes my Barina CAN exceed the speed limit, just not with more than one passenger). I wonder if I can claim the fine on my tax? Which makes me think I really need an accountant cause I’m hopeless at this sort of thing. But I digress.

So I arrived at the music box at 8.34am, 4 mintues late, and met the producer/engineer/session musician and all round good guy Rory O’Donnell. We start doing some guides (a rough guitar and vocal outline of the song for the drummer to play to) and an intense feeling of dread started to creep into my VERY SOUL due to the fact that I can’t seem to stick to a click track! I was imagining people listening to my CD and thinking it was absolute rubbish. That this project I am pouring my heart and soul into would be an absolute disaster! As always though I overdramatised things a little and apart from a few shonky notes (due mainly to the fact that nobody should be expected to sing before 10 in the morning) it sounded ok.

Then Dustin, the token bearded guy and human metronome arrived, after enjoying hanging out in dense traffic for the better part of an hour. We set up and as soon as he started playing along to the first track I couldn’t keep the smile off my face. It sounded so good hearing my song come to life like that! We got the drums done in just under 4 hours, including sound check and a minor disagreement (we call them creative differences) about the drums for “In the Night”.

So right now I am a pretty happy person as you can imagine. Then I get an email this morning from Danish Quapoor who is doing my cover art with some very sassy and cute ideas! And now I’m on one of those natural highs that occur when you fear everything will turn to shit but really its better than fine, its fantastic!!

Will keep you up to date with more of my inane ramblings soon

Donnelle

PS I also discovered I’ve worn a hole in the bottom of my favourite sneakers! It can’t all be good news.

In The Night, one of the tracks I’ll be recording for my first EP. Did the drums yesterday, they sound EPIC

Time you enjoy wasting, was not wasted.
